MISSISSIPPI VALLEY AGC’S 2011 ANNUAL MEETING

The Branch’s 83rd Annual Meeting was held February 2 – 4, 2011 on the Alabama Gulf Coast at the Perdido Beach Resort, Orange Beach, Alabama with President Jon Nieman presiding (shown left). The Corps of Engineers Safety Now banquet on Wednesday evening was opened with remarks from MG Michael J. Walsh, MVD Commander. Our thanks go to the Foley, Alabama Junior AFROTC Color Guard for presenting the colors at the opening session and to Mr. Jamey Sanders, Mrs. Ann Claire Fordice, and Mrs. Susan Gambrell for singing the National Anthem. Although the golf tournament was canceled due to bad weather, the Branch thanks the many golfers and sponsors who donated their fees and sponsorships to the Bruce Tucker Memorial Scholarship Trust. The Branch also extends thanks to the sponsors of the Welcome Hospitality, the Associate Members’ Reception and the goody bags.

The Branch was honored to have Ms. Kristine Young, Incoming National AGC President, (shown right) in attendance who gave remarks regarding the National AGC organization and services. Her theme for 2011 will be “Strength Through Unity: Every Member Matters” as she leads AGC of America through some rather difficult times for the construction industry. She firmly believes that “members are indeed making a difference” and encourages members to go even further.

Mr. Marco Giamberadino, Director of the Federal and Heavy Division, National AGC, gave remarks regarding new and changing policy developments and legislative activities related to federal contracting as well as plans for the upcoming Federal Contractors Conference. He also expressed appreciation for the several members of the Branch who play important roles at the National AGC level in leading the Federal and Heavy Division and serving as Chairs on National Committees.

On Friday morning Mr. Mark Mazzanti, Director of Programs, Mississippi Valley Division, Corps of Engineers, shared remarks on future funding and construction in the Valley and presented the 2011 Dan W. Renfro Partnering Award as shown on the LEADERS IN PARTNERING page. The MVD District Commanders and the Commander, Hurricane Protection Office, gave remarks on their 2011 construction programs.

2011 BRANCH MID-YEAR MEETING

The 2011 Branch Mid-Year Meeting was held August 5 – 6 at the Holiday Inn Hotel – Trustmark Park, in Pearl, MS. Participants enjoyed a great outing Friday evening at Trustmark Park and saw the Jackson M-Braves defeat the Carolina Mudcats, enjoyed food and fellowship in the Party Suite and watched a fireworks show after the game. A special treat was to see a young lady throw out the first pitch and then jump for joy when the catcher (her husband who, unknown to her, had just returned from Afghanistan) handed her the ball. The Board of Directors conducted its business on Saturday morning.
